Joe Fornear, our Executive Director, miraculously survived Stage IV metastatic melanoma, even though the doctor had given him just days to live in May, 2003. But since August of 2003, Joe has been totally cancer free.
The greatest lesson Joe learned was the sufficiency of Christ and His grace in the midst of profound weakness. Though he felt like he was losing his grip, he learned that the Lord had a strong hold on him. Thus, our name, "Stronghold" Ministry is a reference to the Old Testament, not the New Testament 2 Corinthians 10:4 - "...demolishing strongholds..." Several times in the OT the Lord is called our Stronghold; a Rock, strength and refuge in times of trouble. Plus, the whole purpose of tearing down negative strongholds is to become established in the only positive stronghold in Whom we should enmesh ourselves and place our trust.
We seek to help believing cancer patients understand their inheritance and the goodness of God to grow in Christ's life in the midst of their suffering.
We also seek to win unbelieving cancer patients to Christ as Savior. We want them to know the joy and peace of knowing Jesus and having their sins washed away! Often their cancer makes them very open to the Lord.

Description: Christ-centered family-style residential counseling ministry, including secondary education, for emotionally troubled, rejected, disadvantaged and at-risk youth, ages 13-17. Located in rural Vermont, The Fold serves youth and families from throughout the USA but mostly from the Northeastern, Central, and Southern regions.
Our program includes separate homes for girls and boys, a private Christian school, and a Retreat and Training facility. Teens voluntarily enter The Fold although parents/guardians must officially place them into our care. The program varies in length between 10 to 14 months. Quarterly home visits provide teens and parents opportunity to both practice and assess their learning and progress. Teens also develop personal disciplines and enjoy diverse experiences important to their continuing success upon completion of their program.
